After a year and a half of playing together, Parts &
Labor and I have decided to part ways. I will focus
my full attention on recording and performing as Noveller
and producing new film work. The guys in Parts &
Labor are some of the most hard-working musicians I’ve
encountered, and I know that they will continue to make
music that is compelling and important. Touring and
making music with them has been an invaluable experience,
and I wish them continued success!

this Saturday at the 92Y Tribeca. The screening is part
of the NY
Eye + Ear festival and features a selection of my
short films, as well as work by Liz Wendelbo and Rachel
Blackwell.
The
official release date for my new CD, Red Rainbows,
is September 1st.
Press release:
Debut
CD from Brooklyn musician and film maker Sarah Lipstate.
Red Rainbows is full of growing tonal drones that evoke
visions of menacing multicolored skies alongside tracks
full of beautiful minimalist structures that shoot straight
for the heart. Sarah uses double-neck guitar and various
electronics to create breathtaking atmospheres with
an intensity that works on both a cognitive and emotional
level. These tracks are either really beautiful or really
dirty when the time is right, which is the key here.
Sarah knows what she is doing and when to do it. This
is an essential initial document from one of the new
artists bending abstract sound into meaningful structures.
Includes a collaboration with Carlos Giffoni. This is
an enhanced CD and includes the short film “Interior
Variations”. Artwork by Caroline Contillo.
Tonight I'm playing a solo show and with Parts &
Labor at Union Pool in Brooklyn. The show is a benefit
for the Willie
Mae Rock Camp for Girls.
Tomorrow
I'm leaving for Germany for a week of shows with Parts
& Labor and three solo shows. I'm very excited to
announce that Maja Ratkje will also play the show in
Oslo on June 16th!
I will have a new DVD for sale at these shows titled
SIX SHORT FILMS by Sarah Lipstate. A selection
of my films will screen at the shows in Berlin on the
11th and Oslo.

I am showing
a new short film titled Interior Variations at
the New Museum on May 16th as part of No Fun 2009: Infinite
Sound and Image.
"In its sixth year, the No Fun Festival has emerged
as one of the most unique and vital festivals for experimental
music worldwide. Curated by No Fun organizer and label
head Carlos Giffoni, this special screening will present
moving image work by a selection of artists performing
in the 2009 festival.
Jim O'Rourke and filmmaker Makino Takashi collaborate
on The Seasons, a dense abstract film that fluctuates
in tandem with O'Rourke's dramatic and resonant score.
Robert Beatty (of Hair Police and Three Legged Race)
will provide a live soundtrack to artist Takeshi Murata's
hypnotic videos and animations. Experimental filmmaker
and sound artist Sarah Lipstate (of Noveller) presents
Interior Variations, a collage of 16mm hand-painted
film, black and white super 8mm, and found footage,
which will be accompanied by a new Noveller composition
titled "Telecine". Dominick Fernow/Prurient
will screen spins the worlds wheel again a short film
inspired by his 180 page hardcover book of collages
Rose Pillar on Heartworm Press which deals directly
with mortality within the family structure. Sound artist/composer
C. Spencer Yeh (of Burning Star Core), known for his
arrangements that draw on both aural and physical experience,
will premiere a new work using voice as its central
component. Megan Ellis and Carlos Giffoni will also
showcase a new piece, created specifically for this
show, which will pair minimalist visuals with an evolving
electronic sound score."
This Wednesday,
March 4th, is opening night for Armitage Gone! Dance:
Think Punk! at The
Kitchen. Celebrating 30 years of her choreography,
the program features a world premiere and three of Karole
Armitage's classic works. I will be playing guitar in

by Karole Armitage and music by Rhys Chatham. The program
runs from March 4th-14th. Tickets are available here.
